Types of Air Conditioners J.R. Bolton’s Experts Install and Service for Greater Atlanta Area Homeowners
When your home is too hot, you have a number of different air conditioning options.
The right type of air conditioner for your home depends on two things:
- The size of the interior of your home that you need to cool
- The climate of the region in which you live
At J.R. Bolton Services, we have more than 30 years of experience installing the right air conditioning systems for Greater Atlanta homeowners. Our techs are fully licensed and certified, and receive weekly training to keep their skills among the best in the area, which is rare for most HVAC contractors.
Types of air conditioning systems you may install at your home
Staying in your house when it’s too hot outside is uncomfortable at best. At worst, it can be dangerous if you get too dehydrated.
You have a number of air conditioning options available at your disposal. But, you need someone with true expertise in HVAC to help you make the best choice for your home.
Many HVAC contractors want to sell you a new system. Our HVAC techs want to make sure you get the right system that gets you comfortable and fits in your budget. We give you the advice, and you make the choice.
You may choose one of these air conditioning system types:
Most homes in the Atlanta area have central air conditioning, and for good reason. It’s fast and efficient, and you can use the ductwork for heating in the winter too.
With central air, the system is not sized by BTU output. Instead, the system is sized for your home by “tons.” One “ton” equals about 12,000 BTU. Your home needs to have the right amount of cooling tonnage for the interior living space you need cooled. When too big or too small, your central air can cycle on and off rapidly, making you highly inefficient. This can happen even in brand new homes, and many HVAC contractors don’t know how to size central air conditioning systems properly.
When you replace an old central air system with a new one that’s the right size, you can make huge gains in efficiency. A 10-year old AC system may be operating at 10 SEER (a measure of efficiency), while new systems commonly operate at 20 or more. Simply by installing the right central air system for your home, you can cut your cooling bills in half.
When maintenance and repair don’t give you the comfort and efficiency you want, then it’s time to consider upgrading to a new AC system that does.
Ductless air conditioners
Believe it or not, ductless AC systems provide heat in addition to cooler air. This type of AC typically has a higher SEER rating, but generally doesn’t have the same cooling capacity as a central air conditioning system.
Ductless air conditioners come in a compact form. An outdoor unit delivers refrigerant to one or more compact ones indoors. You don’t have to install ductless air conditioners in a window, and they also have a much more attractive look than a window-mounted AC unit.
If your home doesn’t have ductwork in the first place, and you don’t have the budget available to install it, ductless air conditioning makes sense. It also makes sense if you need to cool an addition or converted attic.
Portable air conditioning
You can purchase and install portable air conditioners yourself. J.R. Bolton Services also offers them when your repair requires more than a day. They can be totally self-contained, or ducted to a nearby window. Most use refrigerant to help with cooling, while others evaporate water to make it happen.
Portable air conditioners are sized from 5,000 to 10,000 BTU, and have their efficiency measured in EER and SEER ratings. They’re much less expensive than other AC equipment alone, but you’ll need several of them to cool your home. They also make extra noise, and if you install them in your window, they don’t look the best.
Stay cool and comfortable all year long, and with great efficiency, with the right air conditioning system
J.R. Bolton Services has the experience and skills necessary to install the perfect-size AC system in your home.
